Power Deregulation
Is any Congressman a spokesman for special interests more than Rep. Tom DeLay, or is he just the most out-of-touch? He wants to deregulate the electric companies just as we did the phone services. Let's see, that means I can expect
to get nightly calls asking me to change my service and to occasionally get slammed;
to sift through dozens of plans, several from the same company;
to see too many dollars wasted on advertising and junk mail which, otherwise, could be spent on plant safety and efficiency;
my overall bill to go up, not down (if I look at my combined local and long distance bills, I pay more now than before the deregulation).
We used to have the best and most cost effective phone system in the world, but not enough people must have been getting rich off of it, so it was destroyed. Once again, we've got something that works, so why would we want to mess it up? Is it just so Rep. DeLay's friends can get richer? And what does he really get out of this? He doesn't seem to be doing it for our benefit.
