Visiting Neighbors

Stars implode into reality.

 Ultraviolet flames through space.

 Materialization into orbit, a loose circle.

 Frictionless sides slide Earthward -- an

 Elevator dropping so slowly to ground floor,

 Settling bumplessly.

Small sun rises behind me.

 Sailing over solid ground, I see initial contacts.

 Wonder and fear succumb to revulsion, hostility.

Cries:"Go away; leave us alone!"

: "It's a giant snake!"

: "Shoot it!"

Pain seizes my outer self;

 I sense death.

 "I just wanted to

 Borrow a cup of oil."
