While there’s no such thing as a minor church father, sometimes we treat them as Augustine and the Rest. God tells us to remember our leaders — to consider their lives and imitate their faith (Hebrews 13:7). In a time of great historical forgetting, this retreat will focus on fulfilling this Biblical command, bringing to mind stories and examples from lesser known church fathers, with a focus on how Christian men can be inspired to imitate their faith today. “Deep roots are not replaced by the frost,” says Gandalf the Grey, and on this retreat we will be digging down into church history both so that we will not be “led away by diverse and strange teachings” but even moreso because “it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace” (Hebrews 13:9).
